L. michiganense Species

L. Michiganense—–

Native Species of Minnesota and very sought out species.

I collected wild seed in 2019 and had tossed the baggie in the greenhouse for further care and it fell to the floor accidentally. Ignoring it only due to the fact that it was out of sight as well as out of mind, it was discovered in 2021. , It was discovered by my youngest granddaughter who called it ‘HER FLOWER’. ‘HER FLOWER’ is now available but please remember, true to name L. michiganense. —– “Wild thing I think I love you”

I have had the pleasure of finding sources of different wild seed, that I will add to the gardens to increase my meadows for future crosses. Seed production looks very promising with ‘HER FLOWER’ for this fall. My plan is to use the same method of madness of tossing and forgetting… Original seeds were harvested 2019 from Boyd Wisconsin where the family farm property lays. I have visited this colony and many other colonies and have marked it for safety as one of the colonies was found popping up among ditches and farm fields.

This species likes a damp environment, well drained — I have many test plots of these growing and I have found that the best space still,  is near a down spout of my home. The water from rain creates moisture that is needed. I also have a plot growing under a window air conditioner of my 1930’s bungalow home. The exhaust of continuous drips of the window air conditioner, creates a feed of moisture to my ever growing species.

Take a look over at Hartle-Gilman Gardens for opportunity to have a few of these for your very own. Look up species Lilium under the shop page.
