L. martagon is a widespread native species. They like it here in Minnesota even though they are not a native here. L. martagon is one of the species that make up all sub martagon hybrids. The others include Ll. hansonii, tsingtauense, distichum, and medeoloides.
May I say that these are small flowers, no bigger than my thumb. pure, clean and crisp fragrance . This was an original stock that I was able to obtain from a reliable source that did a wild hunt for seed collection. Having grown these out over the course of several seasons, they were able to offer me a few. I jumped on the opportunity, and now—- here they are.
This species bloom is little bit later ( LATE JUNE-TO EARLY JULY), compared to my other L. martagon lilies.
I have noticed that the species has adjusted and has increased with over a dozen stems for next season. I HAVE BECOME A SEED SAVER, COLLECTOR,PROTECTOR OF LILIUM, their relatives and above all their species. Hopefully seed will continue for further seasons. (This martagon demonstrated fuzzy buds once it matured ) A added surprise. (Originated seeds from Daugava River Latvia)
