L. martagon var. flaviflorum ( flavia ) meaning golden or blonde , is the most rarest of L. martagon varieties. Not much is known except what I have been told. There are years here that I see them scattered in the woodlands and other years not so many. I am believing that the wildlife eats the flowers by day and by night. They glow. Sometimes there is more yellow in the perianth and sometimes there are more spotted with purplish markings. Most are unspotted. With wild geographical distribution, of L. martagon species, it has led to many subspecies and varieties. This type was is proving to be a strong performer. The original owners had many friends from all over the world and this is one of the many that is within the collection here at Hartle-Gilman Gardens.
