Early Season for Martagons
Today Feb 19th I asked myself, ” Just what are you going to do today?” After a two hour shoveling session with a dull blade tool, I promised myself that I would do better next season with freshly sharpened equipment. I think back now and wonder if I made the same promise to myself last season. Well, as it is, I did get the job done with the spirit of song in the aire.
Robins have arrived here, they have been noticed a few days ago, So hearing them I grabbed my Fuji that is not used often enough and started shooting only to have the battery go dead after a couple shots. I certainly love their song. Today was surprised to see only a single Robin singing loud and clean. From the melody, I would have thought it was several. She stayed long enough for one photo in my birch tree. As Mrs. Robin, I think we where both pondering over the same question, What were we going to do today?
So back inside where I decided to count the baby martagons that are emerging for the first season ( as of today, 195 ) and then thought that it was time to wake up my seedlings that were going to be potted up for ‘Meet the Martagon’ Show. I believe that the organizer of the show has some other ideas, but for now, I pot them up and I can prepare to exhibit my seedlings that were acquired from a well know Canadian Grower and a personal dear friend of mine right here for all to see. Magical Minnesota Martagon Exposition. I would like to get the word out of what I have found to be my passion and desire and educate all with the magic of martagon season. So, for today— Lets pot up Martagons for the anticipation of showing them. Will they bloom in 12-14-16 weeks? We will have to have a countdown

I want to understand the value of time, in a forced environment by changing the limitations of what is to what could be. Martagons that I received October were placed into the refrigerator until today. O11th-F19th … Now please keep in mind that these are really nice size bulbs. They for the most part were about the size of a golf ball. Not huge, but sizable for a promise of a first bloom at their new home in 2026. I will keep updates with the progress. 58 potted martagons to date
