"Faith is like a lily, lifted high and white" -----C. Rossetti
I am, was the reply when they were asked her ‘How art thou’.?
I am….. in the stage of observations, note keeping and above all trying my hardest to keep all thoughts deeply coded and in a neat appearance. Having scribbles and headaches is probably the formula to catastrophic irrational decision making when something as important as recording your history within your world.
Decisions will be the acculimative thoughts of what to record and discard. The bias hunches, convictions, perceptions, assumptions, surmises, speculations, and possibly hallucinations. Then there is the unbiased of pondering, witnessing, embracing , considering, reflecting, and accounting, with personal building blocks , tools of hardwire, that can be a blunder of blurs…… So…… I shall JUST START…
at some time in the past……. or perhaps I shall say. ONCE UPON A TIME …

ENCAGED…. I am not sure that is the right practice and moving forward…. SETTING THEM FREE
My observations: Planted single L. hansonii 2020 Fall —– Spring 2021 Sulking Spring 2022 one stem … Spring 2023 with five emerging stems
APRIL 14TH 2023
1.from one stem to five in a single year.
2. first emerging Lilium species.
3. receives eastern sunrise —- afternoon heat
4. Glossy Lime Green Foliage observed
5. Noted 2020 and 2021 thick wax like tepals thickness—- peeling of an orange with tons of pith.
6. No bulblets on stem.
7. Bloomed 2022 first time—June 21st. Could be due to receiving an abundant of light? Distinct looking and noticeable
8. Aborted seed formation when I hand pollenized with its own pollen. Will try another source of Hansonii and see if there may be a different genetic structure to inoculate seeds. (need to be careful to not use a hybrid)
5. Disturbed… Digging down to try to have a better look at the structure underneath, 7 inches deep with trowel and still there was no visible sign of the upper most tip of the bulb structure. Aborted looking for a bulb, as of interference of spring emerging stems. Notes indicate that the bulb was planted 5 inches deep. This i will continue to do, but wondering if perhaps digging deeper so that they are not emerging when the dangerous frost and below temperatures flux. Example. (recorded in fahrenheit degrees) 4-10 72/42, 4-11– 81/45, 4-12– 88/61, 4-13– 87/60, 4-14– 84/57, 4-15 wait for it 58/39 and now today 4/16– 58/30 Predicted 4-17 47/26… CAN I BE A LITTLE UPSET WITH THIS FORECAST? Going from air conditioning one day, to the next day sleeping with a parka on in a winter downy comforter. 😳😩😩 A real ride of roller-coster daze. Wild and fluctuating weather conditions.

L. hansonii… To tell the truth, not a lot of people find this attractive. I have seen them pick L. hansonii up at trade shows, and instead of putting it into the cart for check out, it ends up back into the pile of unwanted purchases. (If only they knew) A species in the palm of their hands…. a rather important one at that. A excellent doner in the world of garden sex and hybridizing. Credited to Dr. S.L. Emsweller from his observations. Here he proved that L. hansonii is the ONLY virus-resistant lily and its hybrids inherited.
Oh Lilium hansonii… (HANSON LILY) named sake of Mr. Hanson of New York State. You are a long way from home. Korea ((Dagelet Islands) TAKESHIMA, DIAMOND MOUNTAINS, NEGITA MOUNTAINS) being your native lands, You were harvest against your will, distributed in colonies in large geographic regions, and still unnoticed and unknown. Having long been cultivated in Japan where you had to learn to adapt. Not difficult, as your demeanor is rather relaxed. Your ovoid, fleshy, and dimensional bulb had numerous wide triangular tightly scales. ( the only singular note I wrote down unfortunately ) My goodness, You were one of numerous OS from the fields in the original fields. How did you get there, I discovered that the original owner visited Japan, for collective species and hybrids. Many of these were within his private collection at his home residence. So when evacuation of the fields were combed and removed due to the closure of the original fields, the majority of species and hybrids were still there just around the corner. A heavenly gift from the past.
EVER AND FAITHFUL ART THOU’. EACH AND EVERY YEAR YOU ARE THE FIRST TO EMERGE … IN THE SPRING I SEE YOU FIRST AND FOREMOST. Are you perhaps just eager to be bitten by the frost? Perhaps…. eager to greet the sun of a new and remarkable season that is upon you? I am a hybridizer that is outrageously smitten. Now… let me cover you up and wait for a new day……

April 19th 2025—-
1. deep within the debris of the beds the healthy foliage emerged over the past week. I would have liked to unbound this species and set her free.
2. Noticing that the pips are emerging outside the perimeters that it was originally protected in. With no snow cover in St Paul, Minnesota, 2024-2025. Temps fluxed all season from -degrees in Jan and 40s in Feb and a few days later -18. I dare say that the beds were prepared correctly as there was very little leaf litter I dare. I am happy to have had the return of this fine species. Now if we would get some precipitation of some sort, I will not be to inclined to start my watering practices.
3. Nice Glossy LIME GREEN FOLIAGE OBSERVED.
